2015 Disability Standards for Education Review (2005)

Monday, May 11 2015

The Department of Education and Training has commissioned Urbis, an independent social research consulting firm to undertake a review of the Standards. The Standards seek to ensure that students with disability are able to access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability and clarify the obligations of education providers. The review is an opportunity to provide feedback on the Standards, including:

  • whether the Standards have assisted people with disability to access and participate in education and training opportunities on the same basis as those without disability
  • whether the Standards have helped to raise awareness and eliminate discrimination of people with disability in education and training
  • the level of understanding and use by education and training providers to provide a quality education which meets students’ needs
  • the level of understanding and use by students with a disability of all backgrounds and their families to advocate for their rights
  • identifying any recommendations that could improve the effectiveness of the Standards.

Click here to visit the consultation website to make a contribution to the review. You can provide written, video or audio submissions or take part in an active discussion forum. The website will be open for submissions until 29 May 2015.
