Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC)

Finance Learning Standards Working Party

Commissioned by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC), the Finance Learning Standards Working Party (FLSWP) has been created to develop Finance Learning Standards (FLS) at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 7 (Bachelor Degrees) and Level 9 (Coursework Masters). The FLSWP reports to an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) chaired by Professor Iain Watson at the University of Queensland.

This is a quality initiative surrounding AQF and the TEQSA Act 2011. The focus is on developing threshold (minimum) learning standards in financial education at these levels only.

To date FLWSP have consulted with both industry and universities. They are now in the process of seeking to consult with private providers of finance degrees (and TAFE providers of finance degrees).

Should your institution provide courses in the finance sector at the levels described above, you have the opportunity to provide feedback and comments through a consultative process. To participate please contact the Chair of FLSWP Dr Kevin Tant via email or phone +61 (0)3 99032386.

Further details can be found at their website at  This includes a draft document which is being circulated as part of the consultation process.
