Vale Steve Pasfield

Monday, June 23 2014

ACPET members, particularly those in NSW and Western Australia, will be as deeply saddened as members of the ACPET Board and I were to hear the news that Steve Pasfield was tragically killed when a car hit his motorbike from behind in a traffic accident on Friday.

Steve joined the ACPET Board in 2012 to a nationally elected position representing large and Corporate Members, as the National Training Manager, Access Training Pty Ltd (sister company of Kirana Training).

Steve had an extensive background and professional development path in the VET sector – he started in VET when he joined the Navy and undertook his Electrical Fitters Trade (as he told it “some many, many years ago!”).

Steve was involved in Trade Training whilst in the Navy and on leaving the Navy in the late 90’s moved into the VET sector working for a Newcastle based RTO. From there he went on to be one of the founding owners/directors of the J2S Group and earned a variety of professional and academic qualifications along the way.

Steve was one of three Board members who selflessly chose to support changes to the ACPET Constitution to bring more Independent Director positions to the Board, at a cost of their own tenure as Board Directors. Steve’s contribution to ACPET continued in his role as a member of the NSW State Committee where he was a significant contributor.

Steve’s passions, aside from his enthusiasm for the VET sector and the opportunities it offered learners, included hitting the open road on his motorbike with his partner Virginia. The thoughts of ACPET and all its members are with Virginia, other members of Steve’s family and friends.
