Minister Pyne to deliver keynote address at ACPET Higher Education Symposium

The annual ACPET Higher Education Symposium will this year be held in Sydney on 22 May 2014.
Higher education providers must be innovative and responsive to the needs of students and business by maintaining academic rigour and delivering high quality education. Within this context, the ACPET 2014 Higher Education Symposium will provide a comprehensive analysis of the issues related to policy, regulation, academic governance and learning and teaching practice.
The keynote speaker at the Symposium is the Hon Christopher Pyne, Minister for Education. In addition to Minister Pyne, delegates will also hear from TEQSA, the Higher Education Standards Panel and other influential stakeholders in the higher education sector.
While the Bradley review recommended expanding the demand-driven system to all accredited higher education providers once national regulatory measures were in place, to date there has been little commitment publicly towards this happening. The symposium will provide an opportunity for delegates to hear about and discuss changes to higher education policy under the Coalition Government and importantly how this will impact their students and institutions.
In addition to hearing from policy makers and regulators delegates will also hear about recent research that has examined the potential role that could be played by non-university higher education providers in the future expansion of Australia’s higher education system.
The Symposium will also examine the practical components of higher education, including how providers are meeting issues associated with academic governance, what actions can be undertaken to address the challenges of maintaining academic integrity in the digital age, and strategies that can be developed and implemented that inform and improve learning and teaching practices.
