New Privacy laws: are you and your organisation equipped?

Monday, March 10 2014

Does your organisation have in place the right measures for compliance with the new Privacy Act regime?

The changes to the Privacy Act, which comes into force this week from 12 March, will be far-reaching across different organisations. Your organisation will be affected, not only in how you deal with the private information of those you communicate with on a daily basis but also in how you manage your rights and obligations across all your systems and operations.

Experienced commercial litigation lawyer and Partner at Mills Oakley, Damian Ward, will unpack the amended Privacy Act and explain its overall impact on businesses. Damian will:

  • provide an overview of the changes to the Privacy Act
  • explain the rationale underlying the changes to the legislation, and
  • broadly identify ways that your organisation can ensure compliance by avoiding infringements of the privacy of third parties and thus avoid fines and penalties.

At the end of the session, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire on how the amended legislation will impact your own organisation’s business. Depending on the questionnaire findings, ACPET may schedule a follow-up webinar that focuses more explicitly on compliance for RTOs.
