Biometric identifiers for international students
Monday, April 16 2018
From 31 May 2018, student visa applicants who apply in countries included in the offshore biometric program will be required to provide biometric identifiers including fingerprints and facial images. Details of which countries are participating in Australia’s biometric program can be found at: http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Biom/biometrics-countries
This will increase the Department of Home Affair’s capacity to identify and authenticate visa applicants.
Student visa applicants in participating countries, who are required to provide biometrics, will be sent a letter shortly after they have lodged their application. These applicants will need to attend an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) or Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC) in person and pay a service fee. A student can find the details of AVACs or ABCCs and the applicable fees in their country on the DoHA website.
