Update on the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement (A-HKFTA) negotiations
Monday, March 5 2018
The fourth round of negotiations on the A-HKFTA was held in Canberra from 7-9 February 2018. This round was focused on a smaller number of chapters, including cross-border trade in services, telecommunications, financial services, electronic commerce, investment, competition, and legal and institutional commitments. The fourth round also included further discussion on market access offers.
The fourth round built on a meeting of services, investment and legal working groups which was held in Singapore from 29 November – 1 December 2017. This meeting in Singapore was held in between the third and fourth rounds to advance the negotiations, and provided a springboard from which to make good progress during the fourth round in Canberra.
Negotiators expect to hold a further round in May this year. Written submissions from individuals and organisations on the potential opportunities and impacts of a Free Trade Agreement with Hong Kong are welcome and can be lodged via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
