ACPET Queensland End of Year Function
A 21st Century approach to Career Planning and Development

Times are clearly changing.

Everyone of us has read text books on leadership and change management theories and understood that the way we live and work is dramatically altered by factors such as globalisation, the rapid increases in digitalisation and usage of technology and significant economic and labour demographic shifts. It has become evident that concepts like a ‘job for life’, ‘company man’ or a ‘trade for life,’ no longer exists.

No wonder, with most individuals changing their jobs numerous times throughout their working lives providing them with variety, fun, new skills, and financial reward; self directed career planning has become limited in a complex and fast paced environment. The professional role that Career Practitioners perform, empowering individuals to design and manage their own lives and unique careers; is rapidly becoming a supporting student role that training organisations can no longer be without.

You can’t afford to miss what will be a highly informative session about ‘A 21st Century approach to Career Planning and Development’.
This link is an NCVER report Choosing VET: aspirations, intentions and choice, that reflects how students talk about the education choices they have made.

This session will bring together presenters who will share a variety of views, information in the form of real case studies and their experiences in the profession. Hear from –

  • Sally Healey, CEO, Career Development Centre - The evolution of Career Practitioners and their professionalism throughout the generations - its relevance; its achievements; its future;
  • Gordon Scott, Managing Director, Successful Graduate - Career aspirations vs Course requirements: Improving student career development capability
  • The session will conclude with an industry panel discussing Fulfilling Career Goals not Course Goals - How does the role of Career Practitioners become a more respected profession? – what’s a true measurement of success; what are the skills required for the future; is there a role for the provider to perform; what does a collaborative framework look like; is it sustainable;
