Preparing ELICOS and EAL courses for addition to scope

This event focuses on preparing ELICOS and English as an Additional Language (EAL) courses for accreditation or addition to scope.

The event focuses on the National ELICOS Standards, as well as certificate courses. Topics covered embrace key information to include in applications, as well as documents, processes and resources that need to be ready for a site audit.  In addition, the event compares ELICOS and EAL courses enabling participants to better determine which program may be best suited to have on scope.

  • Develop key policy and process documents for EAL and ELICOS courses
  • Prepare assessments mapped against course criteria

Presenter: Lana Harasymiv

Lana Harasymiv has worked in education for 25 years with most of that time spent in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) education, including 12 years teaching and managing TESOL programs in Japan. She has worked as Director of Studies of both VET and English programs and has extensive experience in preparing both VET and ELICOS courses for accreditation and additions to scope. She is also experienced in preparing RTOs for audits, including re-registration audits. She holds a Masters in Arts (TESOL) and two post-graduate diplomas in education. She is currently employed as the Director of Studies of English Programs, managing both ELICOS and EAL foundation skill programs.

Presenter: Rachel Taylor

Rachel Taylor has more than 15 years’ experience teaching, designing, managing and quality auditing in the VET sector in Australia and abroad. Having worked in the ELICOS and tertiary sectors in addition to the VET arena, she has a passion for using student data to inform educational reform, and assess the quality of VET service provision.  With a background in second language education, Rachel has a strong focus on supporting Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills development and promoting professional development for trainers in how to cater for differing language and learning needs in the classroom.

What Are Skill Sets?

In 2016, a national Review of Training Packages and Accredited Courses found that across various industries the identification of skill sets within training packages increases the available skill development options for consumers (individuals and employers).

In 2017, there are 1196 current skill sets defined in National Training Packages.

This webinar will explore the opportunities, benefits and potential applications of skills sets (both nationally defined and RTO designed), and some of the practicalities of offering skills sets, such as registration and certification.

How might you maximise the use of skill sets effectively for individuals? With your industry partners?

Presenter: Maree Thorne

Maree has over 20 years working in the VET environment including as an educator and manager. As a consultant, Maree currently works with RTOs and other organisations conducting quality auditing, developing quality management systems and effective business and compliance solutions and developing RTO staff capability, as well as managing her own RTO which specialises in the delivery and assessment of an accredited course in vocational education and training quality and compliance.
