ACPET Cairns 2017 Regional Forum

Monday, October 16 2017

For the sixth consecutive year in a row ACPET is hosting a Cairns Regional Forum on Friday 10th November from 8.45am and concluding at 3.00pm. The forum is being convened at the Pacific Hotel Cairns.

The morning session will commence with a presentation from Allan Bonsall (Director, Brand Genetics) on ‘Planning for Digital Disruption and your changing customers’.

“More than ever customers are in the driver’s seat - thanks to the shift in the balance of power between brands and individuals. Mastering digital disruption will be vital to the prosperity of every sector of the economy, including education and training. As value chains shift within industries, leaders and policy makers face significant strategic questions. How well positioned is the far north Queensland education and training sector to answer those questions? According to Deloitte’s Digital Disruption Map education and training will confront major change through Digital Disruption in 3 to 5 years. The time to PLAN is now!”

Following on from Allan’s scene setting presentation, Ben O’Donoghue will provide an update on the proactive work and discussions held to date by the FNQ VET network. Ben will pose questions to delegates on: “How can we build a strong independent training and education profile in far north Queensland? How will that profile enhance the sectors capacity to respond to digital disruption? Do we know enough about our customers to manage that change, and realise the opportunities?”

To conclude the morning session, a presentation about ACPET’s Industry Certification Program, that will provide renewed confidence to students, employers and government, will lead into morning tea. The presentation will outline the 360° peer review model that aims to set the bar high, and the benefits to members who undertake and complete the program.

After morning tea, an Industry Panel representing local and state wide interests, will share with delegates the emerging skills needs across occupations and their thoughts on ‘Developing the far north Queensland Workforce’ to meet the economic and labour demands of the future. The industry panel will discuss and debate the potential opportunities and barriers in the achievement of a highly skilled Queensland workforce.
To round the forum off, the afternoon session is completely focused on how the education and training sector will meet the growing industry and community needs in the region.  Delegates will be entertained and motivated by a dual presentation from Paul Furse (Getting your Priorities Right, and the Right Person to Achieve Them) and  Sam Harrop (7 Steps to Accountability).

The forum is always a great occasion for all delegates to network with colleagues in a collegiate environment. The forum will conclude with a complimentary cocktail function to continue the sharing of experiences and provide support to each other as members.
