student welcome desk - tullamarine airport

National Monday Update Issue:

The Office of Knowledge Capital will be operating a Student Welcome Desk in the International Arrivals Terminal at Melbourne Airport from 23 January to 21 February 2010.

In order to provide a fully comprehensive service to students at Melbourne Airport, they have previously received information from universities and some education providers in other sectors that they used to assist students in finding temporary accommodation, arrange transport from the airport, contact their education provider, inform of enrolment or orientation dates, or inform students of taxi costs to suburbs surrounding their education provider.

They would like to again compile this information that can be used at the Welcome Desk, in a resource/reference folder and invite you to contribute your institutions information to this.

The information you may like to contribute should include:
  • Institutions address and contact details (including after hours contacts details if usually supplied to incoming students)
  • Transport providers contact phone number/s who normally pick up students (and a note letting them know if they will take students who haven’t booked transport prior to arrival or advice on what they can suggest to these students)
  • a list of temporary accommodation options near to your institutions (all campuses) that they could contact on behalf of students if they arrive without any accommodation arranged
  • Contact details of housing and other services at your institution that they may provide to the student if they ask for it.
  • the web URL of your education institution
  • approximate taxi costs from the airport to your education institution
  • enrolment or orientation dates and details

Please feel free to contact Sharon Smith, International Education Project Co-ordinator, Office of Knowledge Capital, regarding this request and also include any extra information you feel would be useful to the staff at the Welcome Desk.  Please also note that they will not provide any information to students regarding courses or institutions they are not already enrolled to attend. They aim to only assist students to access their accommodation, transport and their education provider and to provide information packs to assist students in their first few days in Melbourne and Victoria.
