Members would be aware of the arrangement through the ACPET DET VET Futures Program that provides the opportunity for VET practitioners undertaking professional development through the Futures Program with stream lined access to QUT’s Graduate Certificate and Master of Education. The program is an opportunity for VET practioners to build their own capacity and enhance their skills in a variety of higher education programs relating specifically to the VET sector.
It is always great to hear positive stories relating to our members and the following such news from many of the participants in the 2009 program makes for both an interesting read and confirmation that we should continue to promote this program…
“Many of the participants in the 2009 QUT program had never before engaged in a university qualification, but the inspirational talk from Dr Alan Roberts and Dr Sarojni Choy at an ACPET breakfast presented an opportunity to do a project on assessment for learning and discussed alternative pathways for enrolment into QUT higher Ed programs. This was the start of the partnership in capacity building of the VET sector between ACPET and QUT.
Given this opportunity to gain enrolment by sending a portfolio of work samples, and other evidence of extensive work in the VET sector was the first of many hurdles that our members achieved with support from the ACPET partnership with higher ED.
It is apparent that the members who have taken this opportunity have indeed worked hard, and with the high level of support from the QUT staff, have indeed done very well......in fact in many cases they have exceeded even their own expectations, with some even achieving a GPA of 6.8, excellent for someone who has not recently studied.
The common response we are getting from people who have enrolled is they have been challenged, and are questioning their educational practice and have become better practioners as a result of the study......wow what a great outcome for our sector as a whole and of course the individual.
The ability of our sector to capacity build to meet the many challenges we are meeting operating in this ever changing VET environment is vital. Watch this space for more exciting developments with this ACPET/QUT partnership in 2010.
