2010 round of the endeavour vet outbound mobility program announced

National Monday Update Issue:

The 2010 round of the Endeavour VET Outbound Mobility Program will fund 15 new and repeat projects up to $35,000 to deliver a range of international study experiences for approximately 151 VET students.

These 15 projects will be undertaken by 11 providers, two of which are private providers, eight of which are public TAFE institutions and one is a dual-sector university. The providers are based in four different states, namely: Queensland; Victoria; New South Wales; and Western Australia.

There is a broad range of countries where the projects will be undertaken, namely: Cambodia; China; Japan; Malaysia; Singapore; Thailand; Timor Leste; United Arab Emirates; and Vietnam.

The international learning experiences include: study tours; internships; practical placements; and volunteer work. The variety of the projects reflects the diversity of the Australian VET sector, with projects across a range of vocational fields and qualification levels from Certificate IV and above.

Some of the individual projects include:
  • An international practical placement for trainee English teachers in Thailand and also in China;
  • A study tour that will see Australian Indigenous design students observe and learn from the experiences of the Indigenous Thai people in commercialising arts and handicrafts;
  • A repeat of the successful study tour to Dubai by building and construction, architecture and plumbing students, and in 2010 the group will include electrical engineering students;
  • A project that see students from the community services, health and building and construction faculties undertake a vocational placement specifically related to their respective vocational fields in the central highlands of Vietnam;
  • Commercial cookery students exploring their specialisation in Asian cookery techniques through in-country training in Malaysia and Singapore; and
  • A tour by Indigenous Australian students studying community development, indigenous business and governance, and youth work to learn from the experiences of the indigenous community of Timor Leste.
