National

Seats are still available for the ACPET 20th anniversary forums and gala dinner.

Formed by a group of committed educators back in 1992, this year ACPET celebrates 20 years of advocacy and delivery on behalf of independent tertiary providers.

ACPET members are invited to contribute to the development of a Vocational Certificate in ICT Education being undertaken by Innovation Business Skills Australia (IBSA).

The Australian Government’s National Broadband Network-Enabled Education & Skills Services (NBN-EESS) initiative will support the development and trialling of innovative online education and skills services that take advantage of the high speed broadband connections being made available through the NBN.

ACPET members are invited to contribute feedback to the draft qualifications of the Automotive Retail, Service & Repair Training Package (AUR05) and the Automotive Manufacturing Training Package (AUM08).

Service Skills Australia’s 2012 National Conference will take place in Brisbane on the 27–28 February 2012.

Applications are now open for scholarships toward a Vocational Graduate Certificate in Education and Training for Sustainability. Flexible hours can be negotiated around your work schedule.

Australian Capital Territory

On Tuesday 24 January the Education and Training Directorate reported that a data mismatch from training.gov.au (TGA) into the Directorate’s AVMS system has caused an issue with the automated data-processing procedure.

New South Wales

The NSW International Student Festival will be held again on Sunday 4 March 2012 at Victoria Park, City Road, Broadway in Sydney from 11am to 4pm.

Queensland

South Australia

ACPET SA continues its profile series of 2012 State Committee members and South Australian representatives on ACPET national committees.

Tasmania

As you may be aware, Hon Nick McKim, Minister for Education and Skills, recently announced a review of the role and function of Tasmania’s public VET providers, with submissions due in mid-March. Although the review will focus on public providers, it cannot ignore the contributions of the wider, active private VET system across Tasmania.

The Minister for Economic Development, David O’Byrne, said Australian Bureau of Statistics job figures show Tasmania’s labour market finished the year with impressive growth in this area.

Victoria

The Victorian Government will be supporting Victorian exporters in South Korea in a major trade mission to Seoul and Busan, Korea from 7–12 May 2012. It is anticipated that a program of activities will be developed for each Victorian participant during Victoria Week.

Commencing this year, the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) has split its previous single membership category into two new divisions: VTAC Institutions and VTAC Associate Institutions. ACPET is seeking members' advice on whether their institution has been adversely impacted by these changes.

In 2012 the Victorian Government is again providing a number of workforce development scholarships valued at $1,000 each for those seeking to move into VET teaching, including secondary school teachers and industry practitioners.

Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT) held its 2011 Graduation Ceremony on 14 December at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Melbourne.
