the highs and lows: tradies' wages across australia

National Monday Update Issue:

The gap between well paid and low paid tradespersons is widening and is most extreme in remote regions.

Where tradies work: A regional analysis of the labour market for tradespeople, by Phil Lewis and Michael Corliss, examines how the workforce has responded to changes in the supply and demand of tradespersons over the past 20 years and to varying economic conditions.

The research was commissioned by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).

Dr Tom Karmel, Managing Director, NCVER, said the research is timely in light of Australia’s strengthening economy and attention turning to managing the workforce to try to avoid skills shortages.
