wa international students forum 2010

National Monday Update Issue:

We are pleased to see the WA Department of Education Services will actively promote Western Australia as a positive destination for study.

The launch of the “Study in Western Australia” website will be held end of this month. In response to the demand, this new website should provide assistance and information about any issues involved in living and studying in WA.

Some of the student issues which have emerged in the International Student Forum 2010:

  • Lack of assistance, of guidance before and after to arrive in the country
  • Accommodation (rent too expensive, transport distance safety concerns)
  • Involve the student to build confidence and participation in the community
(Interaction between domestic and international students)

Some of the Student propositions:

  • 24 hours helpline
  • Purpose built accommodation units
  • Commonwealth fund to build accommodation to meet with tenancy law
  • Providers should facilitate a full education experience including community understanding

We are optimistic this initiative “Study in Western Australia” will cover a few of those issues and we are looking forward to the next Forum (every 6 months) to collaborate to the progress of developing Western Australia as a complete destination.
