NSW Member Support Officer, Sarah Rosen and ACPET’s new Deputy CEO, Claire Field met with Frank Prestipino, Managing Director ICMS last week.
The renowned school in Manly offers a range of both VET and Higher Education courses covering Hospitality Management, International Tourism, Event Management, Business Management, Sport Management, Property Services Management and Retail Services Management.
The Diploma, Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree programs include a 9 month industry training component that adds real value to student’s qualifications and enhances their career opportunities. “It’s those industry links, established as part of their training, that really kick start the career path for our graduates,” according to College Managing Director Frank Prestipino. “They enter the specialisation of their choice, work closely with our industry trained teachers to complete the academic component and then commence the structured, supervised on the job training program with some placements made internationally!”
The visit also provided an opportunity for discussion around issues of concern to many in the private sector pertaining to changes affecting the international sector and the positioning of providers in the Higher education market. Frank Prestipino sees the opportunity for a changing landscape in the provision of quality and choice in the delivery of higher education qualifications to meet the needs of a growing economy and a changing labour market.
He recognises that Higher Education private providers are logical partners for public universities towards meeting the challenges and objectives of the future especially leading to 2012. “A review of the flexibility in student’s access of Commonwealth Supported Places which are currently primarily only available to public universities and through the UAC Guide would open opportunities for all parties concerned especially students,” he said. “We are prepared to meet the challenges that our changing economy will bring, and focus on the stated priorities of our country’s needs. Through collaboration and partnership with private and public higher education providers we could deliver quality, flexible and competitive programs benefiting students, employers, and the economy as a whole,” he said.
