darwin professional development workshops

National Monday Update Issue:

ACPET is pleased to announce a series of Professional Development sessions designed to support RTOs throughout the Northern Territory.

With support from the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training we are pleased to announce the first two workshops to be held at Crowne Plaza Darwin on Tuesday 20 July 2010 and Friday 6 August 2010 from 8.30am to 4.30pm

These two sessions presented by Lesley Wemyss will feature:

Workshop 1 - Tuesday 20 July 2010 Rigorous Evidence and Assessment Quality

As assessment has always been a ‘hot potato’ with the auditors, and it is also a high risk activity that RTO’s undertake. Ensuring that evidence collection is of a high quality and rigorous enough to withstand a challenge is both a business imperative and regulatory requirement. This session will cover the following re assessment:

  • Benchmarks for assessment quality including legal requirements
  • Outlines of recent court cases involving evidence collection
  • Case studies outlining rigorous evidence collection

Workshop 2 - Friday 6 August 2010 Validation and Moderation

We will be addressing the important benchmarking processes of moderation and validation, using the following definitions. Moderation is the process of bringing scores and standards into alignment. It is a process that ensures the same standards are applied to all assessment results within the same Unit(s) of Competency. Validation is a quality review process.  It involves checking that the assessment tool produced sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence to enable reasonable judgments to be made as to whether the standards defined in the Accredited Course or Training Package units had been met. Specifically the workshop will examine the following:

  • Validation and moderation methods
  • Outcomes of validation
  • How to conduct a validation or moderation meeting
