Cengage Education, based in Artarmon, currently delivers distance learning programs to 23,000 students across Australia.
With the ability to provide flexible, self paced learning packages, Cengage is able to deliver courses to students who would otherwise fall outside the structured vocational and higher education systems including those in regional and remote areas.
NSW Member Support Officer, Sarah Rosen, visited Cengage last week to meet with Michael Vella CEO and Dirk Drieberg Academic Director. Formerly known as Thomson Education Direct the college now offers 3 degree programs in Accounting, Business and Accounting/Business all delivered under the distance program. It also continues to offer a wide range of vocational courses including Business, Finance, Accounting, Childcare, Tourism, Design and Aged Care.
According to Michael Vella, flexibility is the key to delivery, “with multiple course enrolment opportunities, flexible breaks, all course materials being available on line and no campus attendance requirements means that we have students that are engaged and able to pace their learning according to their needs and lifestyle. This suits time poor employees seeking a better career path as well as those who are not prepared to take on the strictures of traditional classroom based learning.”
“Of course we ensure that all our students are supported through the Student Support Mentor Program. As well, through Cengage Learning, we are able to offer students unlimited access to one of the world’s largest online academic libraries containing millions of Australian and international articles, journals and books. Our Student Portal provides the one-stop-shop for all unit guides, assessments, Library resources, forums, tutor and mentor communications.” said Michael. “For our students, flexibility and quality are the keys to a great learning future”.
