career choices in south australia

National Monday Update Issue:

The new SACE places a strong emphasis on qualifications, and provides a range of options for students to commence training at school.

Students, families and schools need accurate, timely and understandable information about employment prospects, the labour market, occupations and training pathways and to help make decisions about career pathways.

DFEEST has just released Career Choices which provides user-friendly information - a snapshot of employment prospects in 27 industry sectors in South Australia.

Each industry section has information on employment prospects, occupations in demand and quick facts about the industry based on Census data. There is also information on the range of pathways into the industry which includes VET in SACE courses, post-school vocational training or university degrees, backed by an online presence within SkillsSA and WISonline.

Career Choices has been designed to complement other websites and career information, while providing a South Australian perspective to other career information.

Contact details for relevant South Australian Industry Skills Boards, National Industry Skills Councils and other relevant career information have been included.

Career Choices has been developed and trialed with industry, schools and VET coordinators. The information will evolve over time with additional industry sectors being added. The materials will be updated regularly and readily available online. It is planned to further target these materials so that they will be relevant to adults and other population groups.

Copies of the booklet are currently being printed. To obtain a copy, please phone 8463 5552 or send an workforceinfoservice [at] sa [dot] gov [dot] au (email here).
