Minister for Education Julia Gillard today announced the appointment of the Hon John Dawkins AO as the Chair of the National Quality Council, which oversees Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector.

A recent visit to one of our oldest colleges, the Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) by NSW Member Support Officer, Sarah Rosen was welcomed by college CEO, Warren Jacobson.

The review of the FNS10 Financial Services Training Package has now been completed and the revised Training package has been submitted to the National Quality Council for endorsement.

New South Wales

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) wishes to establish a list of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) approved to provide professional development services to participants in the Job Ready Program, which is an employment-based skills assessment approach for eligible applicants who are seeking skills assessments in occupations assessed by Trades Recognition Australia.

While e-assessment is growing in popularity and being increasingly adopted throughout vocational education and training, many practitioners and auditors are still finding their feet with e-assessment.

The new schedule of NSW DET Professional Development workshops is out and may be of interest to members wanting to build the skills of their workforce, deliver quality training and assessment and meet their compliance requirements.  

Queensland

 
Being involved in training has certainly paid off for Queensland’s top employers, apprentices, trainees and vocational students who have been selected as regional finalists for the Queensland Training Awards.

Members are advised of the forthcoming Bulls on the beach event to be held on the Gold Coast on Saturday 17th July from 5:30pm. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for international students to receive a taste of the country on the coast.
Over 2000 members and other VET stakeholders have attended one of the ACPET DET VET Futures Events hosted by ACPET throughout Queensland over the past 18 months.

 

Nominations for the 2010 Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Excellence Awards are now open and Queenslanders working in the building and construction industry are encouraged to recognise those who show dedication to training.

QLD is playing host next week to the Papua New Guinea Dr. William Tagis Director General, Office of Higher Education.

 

ACPET would like to congratulate Professor Lesley Johnson (recently retired Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Griffith University) who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for her service to education as a leading academic, administrator and author, particularly in the fields of cultural history and feminist studies, and through the establishment of research centres for a range of disciplines.

We are pleased to see the WA Department of Education Services have followed up on ACPET WA’s initiative to encourage collaboration between all stakeholders in the International Training Sector.

After ACPET WA’s proposal to State Government advocating on behalf of private provider best practice in Aboriginal Training and Employment outcomes in WA, we are pleased that private provider best practice examples have been included in this state Aboriginal workforce development strategy “Training together = working together”.

There is an opportunity for forty indigenous students to have the chance to develop leadership and management skills within their local communities in the recently launched “WA One Sky Launch 2010”.
