Last week ACPET’s NSW Executive Officer, Melinda Larkin and NSW Member Support Officer, Sarah Rosen visited BMIHMS to meet with Guy Bentley, Principal and Chris Djekic, Campus Services Coordinator.
Nestled in the pristine environs of Leura, the school has been operating since 1991 as the first provider of Swiss hospitality education in Australia. Today the school is part of the Laureate International University Network which has over 600,000 students in 50 institutions in 21 countries across the globe.
The school together with its counterpart in Canberra, the Australian International Hotel School, boasts an enviable reputation in the provision of benchmark quality degree programs in resort and hotel management with its graduates securing employment in leading hotels around the world. Its close links within the tourism and hospitality sector ensures that its undergraduates have the best opportunity to gain internships and exchange programs globally often leading to offers of employment after graduation.
BMIHMS offers residential bachelor programs for domestic and international students which encourages social integration, inclusion and tolerance. “With our students taking up positions in hotels around the world, it is crucial that they are tolerant and service focused. Living on campus in hotel style accommodation and being responsible for all aspects of hotel management from front of house, housekeeping, porter, food and beverage, concierge and the like ensures that they are getting hands on experience as part of their day to day life even outside of the classroom,” says Guy Bentley.
“Having a strong Student Representative Council involved in fund raising programs for local charities as well as our Sala Bai Hotel School scholarship in Cambodia, encourages our students to take on leadership roles and get involved in their communities both locally and internationally. We also have our Graduate Privileged Partners Program, which is a competitive recruitment program designed to link our highest achieving final year students with a select group of Industry Partners. It provides a unique opportunity for the hospitality industry to recruit our top graduates to become the managers of the future. Our Industry Partners make the final selection to fill positions in their graduate and corporate management programs or for a role with their company that provides secure career growth prospects,” says Mr Bentley.
