ACPET RTO members should be advised that at its 7 June 2010 meeting, the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB), under section 26 (1) of the Vocational Education and Training Act 2005, resolved to accredit, as a vocational course, qualifications from the following training packages:

Northern Territory

Recent media reports have advised that the federal government has stepped in to support a Northern Territory higher education provider that caters to indigenous students.

Member Hospitality Training Association (HTA) is again hosting a fundraising luncheon to raise funds for the variety bash and for ACPET’s entry daisy with the theme “Get Smart”.

Members are advised of the forthcoming Bulls on the beach event to be held on the Gold Coast on Saturday 17th July from 5:30pm. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for international students to receive a taste of the country on the coast.

Ministers of the Ministerial Council for Tertiary Education and Employment made a further step forward towards the introduction of national regulation and quality arrangements for the VET sector.

AusAid are undertaking a number of projects on Nauru and are seeking the services of RTOs with the capacity to delivery onshore in hospitality, construction and engineering.

ACPET is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring the 12th International Robot Olympiad 2010 (IRO) to be held on the Gold Coast from December 15 – 18 2010.

QTIC is hosting a visit from the Hospitality Standards Institute of New Zealand, the Hospitality Standards Institute is an industry-led training organisation (ITO). Their role is to develop and monitor NZQA unit standards and qualifications for the hospitality industry.

In this year’s ‘business as usual’ budget the highlight is for our sector the establishment of the QLD Skills Commission.

 

Over 2000 members and other VET stakeholders have attended one of the ACPET DET VET Futures Events hosted by ACPET throughout Queensland over the past 18 months.

 

Last Thursday evening more than 60 ACPET members, together with colleagues from various departments, had an opportunity to network with the ACPET National Board at a reception held at the Conrad Hotel in Brisbane.

The international students of Diploma of Lifestyle & Leisure at Hays International College were assigned a major assessment piece - to design, develop and implement an authentic event to meet the needs of the elderly within Aged Care Facilities of this area.

The Chief Executive of Melbourne Institute of Technology, Mr Shesh Ghale, recently announced the appointment of Emeritus Professor Wayne Robinson as Foundation Chair of the new MIT Academic Board.

The Lord Mayor’s Student Welcome is all about celebrating the fantastic contribution that multiculturalism adds to this city, through overseas-born Melburnians and the presence of international students. (Nearly 24,000 international students live and study in Melbourne’s central city.)
