training in the north – whats with the duck?

National Monday Update Issue:

VET in schools, new awards, social inclusion, Jobs NT…just a few of the significant issues under discussion last week at the ACPET Skilling Northern Australia Forum in sunny Darwin.

Of interest at a number of sessions was certain collaboration between presenters that saw as their last PowerPoint slide an image of a lone duck swimming in a pond.

In a Forum high in symbolism – serene sunsets, delegates loched in a marina, aqua crystal waters, and cheerful collegiate banter – what was the significance of a lone duck?

This commentator can only speculate as it is all in the interpretation. A duck - serene on the surface but frantically paddling under water? All alone in the big pond? A predator’s delight? Alone in the murky waters unawares of what lurks beneath the surface?

As a VET provider in the current tumultuous and murky national policy waters with potential ‘hunters’ lurking I did feel a synergy with the duck. Maybe it is a good time to migrate or take flight.
