Last Tuesday, the Minister for Education and Training, the Hon. Verity Firth MP, launched the NSW Group Training Awards 2010, praising the efforts of the NSW network of employers of apprentices and trainees.
“Group training organisations make a substantial contribution to the continued employment of apprentices and trainees in NSW particularly in a very difficult employment market,” said the Hon. Verity Firth MP
“These awards also acknowledge the support provided by host employers, families, the training providers and the invaluable contribution made by industry.”
The Group Training Awards are staged annually by the Group Training Association of NSW to recognise and reward outstanding apprentices and trainee employed by its network of members throughout NSW.
Trainees and Apprentices are nominated from a wide variety of vocations including automotive, commercial cookery, electrical, construction, manufacturing engineering, utilities, finance and insurance, business services, IT and communications and hospitality and tourism.
Winners from 2009 included Trainee of the Year – Indigenous, Kayah Stewart (employed by Australian Training Company) and Apprentice of the Year, Gavin Press (employed by Central West Group Apprentices) who went on to win further Awards at the State and National Training Awards, Group Training Awards and Worldskills.
