On 27 May, The Macquarie Education Group Australia hosted a dance party to commemorate Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s 2010 Bicentenary last week at the Pavilion Hotel.
With over 200 students, staff and invited guests from the 5 Macquarie colleges dressed to the ‘bling’ theme, the night went off with a talent competition, lucky door prizes and a dance fest. Dr Gauld CEO regaled as Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1800 period dress, MC’ed the event in his indomitable style, welcoming guests and proposing the toast to commemorate the achievements and contributions of Governor Macquarie.
Named after Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the Macquarie Education Group Australia offers a "Fair Go" Scholarship available to students and staff from many different backgrounds. Governor Macquarie is regarded by many as being the originator of the quintessential Australian value of the 'fair-go'.
Next week, students are off to the Hunter Valley as part of the social inclusion program, while others will be heading to the snow fields for the start of the ski season. Dr Gauld believes it is important that students are exposed to a well rounded education outside the classroom that enhances social skills and provides broad cultural learning opportunities – and all while having fun. “Our students come from all parts of the world to study here and get the best qualifications they can. While here, they are in our care and we go to a lot of effort to ensure that each and every one of them has the best opportunity to do well in their chosen course, feel supported by our caring staff and have some fun along the way.”
