Hospitality Training Association Inc. (HTA) CEO Phillip Charlton has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor at The University of Queensland’s School of Tourism, cementing his commitment to the state’s education industry.
Founded in 1909, Brisbane based The University of Queensland is one of Australia’s top universities and rated in the top fifty in the world.
Adjunct Professors are people recognised by their peers in the profession, business community or public sector as persons of distinction and high achievement. They bring their industry perspective to interactions with the university’s staff and students.
HTA CEO Phillip Charlton said he was honoured to be appointed as an adjunct professor and hoped to be able to further promote the state’s education, hospitality and tourism sector and is looking forward to working with the School of Tourism.
“Tourism employs 120,000 Queenslanders directly, nearly 6% of all persons employed, more than twice the number of jobs in the mining sector. Tourism also generates $3.9 billion worth of export earnings for Queensland and accounts for 4.5% of Queensland's Gross State Product (GSP),” he said.
“With this in mind, it is important that we provide the industry with the next generation of workers with world-class skills.
“Through my work at HTA, I also understand the importance of helping young people develop the skills they need for a successful future in the hospitality industry. Each year, hundreds of students from across Australia and the world come to HTA to study because of our close industry links, experienced trainers, up-to-date courses and state-of-the-art facilities.”
HTA is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1983 by the hospitality industry to service the recruitment, training and employment needs of the industry. It provides industry-relevant training and apprenticeships to domestic and international students each year, helping to address the Australian skills shortage and providing internationally-recognised qualifications to launch careers.
