What's happening on the international scene?

As of 1 July 2010, modern award pay rates, penalties and loadings will come in to effect, with transitional provisions available over the next five years. These will become the mandatory minimum safety net.

e-Portfolios Australia Conference 2010 (EAC2010) will bring together national and international educators and thought leaders from the vocational education and training (VET), higher education (universities) and adult community education (ACE) sectors to showcase current e-portfolio practice.

Today ACPET is launching a Private Education Industry Survey. This is a major initiative that will seek to determine the size and contribution of private providers to the tertiary education industry. An email will be sent to all Members today which will contain an invitation to participate and a link to the survey.

Australian Capital Territory

Minister for Education and Training Andrew Barr announced a high level taskforce last week to consult with the Canberra community on the future of skills and tertiary training in the ACT.

ACT Education & Training Minister, Andrew Barr MLA has made the unprecedented request for an opportunity to informally get together with ACPET Members next month for a drink and to chat about the ACT’s medium to long term strategic direction in Education and Training.

Service Skills Australia in conjunction with ACPET Member, First Impressions Resources will be holding a ‘free’ workshop for RTOs on the use of digital technologies and digital media in obtaining evidence for assessment in retail qualifications from the SIR07 training package.

NSW members are invited to share their ideas and strategies on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

'High use' qualifications for the industries identified below must conform to new packaging rule requirements by 30 June 2010.

The World Skills National Competition was recently held in Brisbane, 7 – 9 May 2010.

The Northern Territory Government has launched its new employment strategy, Jobs NT. Business and Employment Minister, Rob Knight, said Jobs NT builds on the achievements of Jobs Plan, and sets the vision for the Northern Territory workforce for the next three years. The Territory has a growing economy and the government  has set the target of 10,000 trainee and apprentice commencements over Jobs NT.
