public consultation on the victorian youth transition system

National Monday Update Issue:

Consultation process on the Victorian Youth Transition System

The Victorian Government has recently released a discussion paper entitled Stronger Futures for All Young Victorians: Discussion Paper on the Youth Transition System. The discussion paper is designed to elicit the views of a wide range of stakeholders with an interest in improving transition for all young Victorians.

The discussion paper articulates:

  • the strengths of our system;
  • the challenges faced by our system;
  • proposed ways forward; and
  • a number of key questions.

Between the ages of 15 and 24 years, young people are likely to move through more than one education sector and begin participation in the workforce. The Government is looking for ways to ensure that the education sectors, including all private RTOs, work effectively together and in partnership with employers and the community to support all young people through their chosen pathway to a rewarding career.

Equally, the Government recognises that the knowledge and skills possessed by our young people in entry to the workforce are critical to our economic prosperity. It wishes to ensure that as many young people as possible attain Year 12 or equivalent qualifications and a greater proportion attain higher level qualifications, matched to employment opportunity.

A copy of the discussion paper and the date and locations of the consultation forums are available here

Public consultations on the discussion paper are being held between 10 May and 1 June. I would strongly encourage you to read this paper and provide input into future Government policy by attending one of the seven regional forums between 10 May and 1 June and/or by sending a written submission by 11 June 2010.
