training contracts for school-based apprentices and trainees who are home educated

National Monday Update Issue:

In 2007 the Training and Employment Recognition Council (TERC) approved home educated students as eligible for entry into school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) if they are registered with the Home Education Unit of the Department of Education and Training and provided all other entry requirements are met.

Before submitting a training contract for a home educated student to undertake a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, it is necessary that the agreement of the Home Education Unit be obtained.  The Home Education Unit would sign the Education, Training and Employment Schedule (ETES) form in the same way as a school Principal signs for a school-educated student.

The AAC should enter details to electronically lodge the training contract in the same way as for other SATs but select ‘Home Education Unit’ from the drop-down list of schools.
