National Monday Update Issue: 

Tasmania’s most outstanding trainees and apprentices are being urged to nominate for the 2010 Tasmanian Training Awards for excellence in vocational education and training.

Premier David Bartlett said that businesses, trainees and apprentices had until 31 May to nominate for the prestigious awards.

“These awards recognise, reward and honour the achievements of apprentices, trainees and vocational students for their endeavours in gaining the highest standards of knowledge and skills within their industry,” Mr Bartlett said.

“They also recognise the achievements of employers, small businesses and training organisations for their dedication to providing the highest quality training and raising the levels of skills of the workforce in this State.”

Nominations close on Monday 31 May for the following awards:

  • The Skills Institute Apprentice of the Year
  • Rotary Club of Deloraine Vocational Student of the Year
  • JobNet Tasmania VET in Schools Student of the Year
  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year
  • Trainee of the Year
  • Work & Training Ltd Equity Award for a Vocational Student
  • Equity Award for an Apprentice or Trainee
  • TCCI Employer of the Year
  • TCCI Small Business of the Year
  • ACPET Registered Training Organisation of the Year
  • Training Initiative Award
  • Business and Employment Equity Award for an Employer


“Tasmania continues to set the standard in vocational education and training at a national level, and I invite all eligible training organisations, employers, and students to join us in celebrating our fine achievements by nominating for the 2010 Tasmanian Training Awards,” Mr Bartlett said.

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Hobart on Friday 3 September.
