This state-wide research was undertaken as a component of Action 4.1 from the Queensland Skills Plan.

Keeping it real seeks to raise awareness of the issues relating to industry currency. Queensland trainers undertake a range of activities to increase their technical skills and knowledge as well as maintain their industry currency. The report highlights 20 key findings, including:

  • the benefits of maintaining industry currency
  • the barriers trainers encounter and the need to apply more innovative approaches and planning to overcome barriers
  • the value of building and maintaining productive relationships with industry
  • the necessity to apply an outcomes focus when planning industry currency activities.

Departmental staff will be presenting the findings to VET stakeholders around the state over the coming months. Come along to the presentation at the 2010 ACPET state forum on 13 April to consider the key findings, barriers and opportunities and how you can respond to these challenges.
