acpet education & training fund - awarding scholarships

National Monday Update Issue:

On 25 March, ACPET hosted a function to celebrate the awarding of the first 21 scholarships under the Bushfire Scholarship program.

So far 37 scholarships have been offered to bushfire affected community members through out Victoria.

The program was established by the ACPET National Board immediately after the fires in 2009. ACPET members were approached for support and more than a 100 scholarships and a wide variety of other support was donated. So far the total value of the scholarships offered exceeds $500,000.

Guests at the function included the CEO of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction & Recovery Authority, Ben Hubbard, the Parliamentay Secretary for Police & Emergency Services Danielle Green, representatives of State and Federal Government agencies, many of the ACPET sponsors and those receiving the scholarships.

Many of the stories shared were very moving and comments from the recipients regarding the turn around in their lives since being offered such generous support by our members were most gratifying.

So far over 200 enquiries have been received for information and advice. The response from the general community and those involved in providing support has been overwhelmingly positive. It is planned to continue to offer additional positions during 2010.

The following ACPET members have so generously supported the program-
