National Monday Update Issue:
Cairns played host to a number of ACPET events last week. While the tourist dollar in this region has not flowed as freely as locals would like, Cairns is on the path to a establishing itself as a vibrant, diverse and global hub for education and training.
Cairns hosts a number of education and training focus groups and local businesses are aware of the regions potential to attract international students. Study Cairns, a representative industry body primarily comprising education and training providers is focused on growing Cairns as the Queensland international destination of choice.
There is a community awareness of the value of international student, and not just for the obvious economic contributions but for the cultural awareness and friendships that such a population offers.
ACPET EO Michael Hall was welcomed at a Study Cairns breakfast meeting and had an opportunity to discuss items of currency with members. While in Cairns Michael also caught up with member Dianne Payne, Barbara and the team at the stunning new facilities of My Other Mum and Paul Lange at Accredited Online Training at their new inner city facilities.
Enroute to Cairns Michael had an opportunity to meet John-Paul Langbroek MP, Leader of the Q Opposition and Leader of the Liberal National Party. Mr Langbroek was also provided with a copy of the ACPET Access Economic Report, the Australian Education Sector and the Economic Contribution of International Students.
On the VET Futures front, Lesley Wemyss conducted two sessions: one on TEA10 Implementation and Implications and Clustering and Mapping Assessments. Lesley was scheduled to conduct training last Thursday on the Gold Coast but due to flight difficulties the session had to be cancelled on the morning – our apologies to those members we had to contact in the wee hours but take comfort that the next workshop you attend is on us.
Allan Bonsall also conducted a full day session on Friday on Bums On Seats which was well received.
