acpet international student induction series 2010

National Monday Update Issue:

As part of our ongoing commitment to member services ACPET, in partnership with Education Adelaide, the SA Training Advocate, Adelaide City Council, government agencies and sponsors, has organised a series of five information sessions for international students to orientate them to life in Adelaide.

On Thursday 25 February international students and staff from training organisations around Adelaide attended the first workshop in the series, ‘Living in Adelaide’. Guest speakers presented students with a guide to the practical aspects of study in a new country, from finding accommodation and employment to obtaining a driver’s license.

Speakers also offered advice to students on dealing with homesickness, cultural awareness, social etiquette and how to understand the very unique Australian sense of humor.

A networking session after the presentations offered students an invaluable opportunity to meet industry professionals and ask one-on-one questions about their study experience in Adelaide.

Due to popular demand, the series will run again in the second half of 2010. All member RTOs are invited to encourage their international students to attend these FREE information sessions as part of mandatory attendance requirements. Participating students must attend in class or institutional groups accompanied by a staff member who would record attendance.

Upcoming sessions for the current series are:
Health and Well-being (Sponsored by OSHC Worldcare)
Stay safe (Sponsored by Adelaide City Council)
Jobs, Finance and Making Friends
Knowing your Rights and Responsibilities
