Saturday 13 February 2010, WIT staff and students hosted a breakfast at the Maidstone Campus in Maidstone, Melbourne, for the Mayor of the city of Maribrynong, Cr Sel Sanli.
The event was a success, with a member of the Footscray police invited to speak to the students about safety in the surrounding area and Melbourne as a whole.
The Mayor spoke on safety and the progress of WIT students through their studies and wished them well into 2010. Mark Darragh (Chief Operations Officer) at WIT voiced the concerns of the college and shared his experiences with the students whom welcomed his anecdotes.
The police member was a huge hit with the students and WIT staff, sharing in his vast knowledge of the dangers associated with public transport and moving around late at night on your own. Following this he handed out pamphlets on safety on public transport to the students, urging them to stay safe and reiterating lurking dangers.
