act exporters’ network business breakfast

National Monday Update Issue:

A host of ACPET members attended last weeks ACT Exporters’ Network Business Breakfast which featured guest speakers who participated in the ACT Government’s Ministerial Trade Mission to the UK and UAE in October 2009.

With two Ministerial trade missions scheduled for 2010, the breakfast provded an excellent opportunity for participants to quiz speakers on why they decided to participate in an overseas trade mission and whether they believed travelling with the Chief Minister was able to open doors for them offshore.

In fielding a question from the floor, ACPET ACT Board Member Dion Klein suggested that opportunities from trade missions can come from unexpected sources and cited his own experience where an earlier trip accompanying the Chief Minister to India has translated to a potential three way partnership involving India, UAE and Australia.

ACPET member and AIE Director John Margheriti spoke of opportunities arising at a number of levels from the trade mission with advice that travelling with the Chief Minister was most valuable in securing access to key government and industry people that ordinarily would be difficult to meet. The Breakfast concluded with members speaking highly of the opportunity that the forum provided.
