victorian student number - vet sector implementation planning 2010/201

National Monday Update Issue:

ACPET Victoria Executive Officer Cindy Tschernitz attended the Victorian Student Number meeting at Skills Victoria on Tuesday 9 February 2009.

This meeting concentrated on the VET sector planning. This meeting is of particular importance to the VET sector as the discussion was around VET sector planning and implementation.

An update of where the project is follows:

The project plan for 2010/2011 reflects implementation of TAFEs during November and December 2010, followed by implementation of RTOs and ACE providers in the first half of 2011. The later dates are due to the time required for systems development (for both central systems and TAFE Student Systems), and the need for both solutions to be available before end-to-end acceptance testing can commence.

Business requirements for provider systems and for the central interface are awaiting sign off. It is anticipated that an RFQ for development of the central VET sector interface system will be issued before the end of February 2010.

The opportunity exists to bring forward the direct engagement and consultation with Private RTOs and ACE providers so that awareness of the VSN is raised, and potential provider solutions can be explored.

Mike Pogson reported on a visit to William Angliss and his attendance at a QLS User Group meeting. The visibility of the VSN to individual students was raised as an issue by William Angliss. The concern is that, since the VSN will not appear on VET Sector Statements of Results, and school leavers may not receive or retain their VSN notification document from schools, many students may not be aware of their VSN at enrolment in the TAFEs/RTOs/ACE providers.
