vet futures – opportunities for engagement by practitioners

National Monday Update Issue:

As members would be aware, ACPET and DET are working together to identify strategies for sustainable professional development and to assist in the business capacity of RTO’s.

Since the inception of the VET Futures program, ACPET has delivered over 70 workshops and allied activities primarily targeting VET practitioners in such areas as assessment, moderation, audit, validation and the like. ACPET will also be hosting throughout the year two showcases whereby industry and RTO’s will come together to discuss best practice case studies and to engage in a “masterclass” to strategise directions for the sector.

Another phase of the VET Futures Program incorporates a strong research component together with identifying and aligning business strategies that will inform the development of models and success strategies for the sector. ACPET is also endeavouring to establish the ACPET Institute for the VET Professional. The VET Institute is being established to recognize the skills and achievements of VET Professionals. It is envisaged that this Institute will provide support and recognition for Institute members, based on their levels of expertise, industry currency and qualifications.

The VET Institute will also sponsor the ACPET VET Awards for Vocational Education and Training Professionalism, which will honour individuals for their outstanding achievements as professionals within the VET sector. The winners’ professional profiles and achievements will be displayed as leading examples of their professionalism.

Awards for VET Professionalism winners will demonstrate the best balance of professional responsibilities including demonstrated capacity, ethics, and recognized educational and industry credentials, community and industry contributions, leadership and professional affiliations. Categories under consideration currently include a Career Achievement Award, Professional Excellence and Innovation Award, Outstanding Mentor Award and the ACPET Award for Social Inclusion Leadership.

ACPET is eager to engage with members or other interested stakeholders in this process. Should you wish to be involved with any of the VET Futures Program activities, either as a Leader (assisting with the delivery of information sessions or similar), or as a participant in any of the research activities please contact Michael [dot] Hall [at] acpet [dot] edu [dot] au (Michael Hall.)
