ACPET congratulates Dr George Brown, Group Academic Director for Think: Education Group www.think.edu.au on his appointment by the Deputy Prime Minister & Federal Minister for Education, Hon. Julia Gillard MP, to the Board of the Australian Learning & Teaching Council www.altc.edu.au. The appointment is for a four year term commencing in January 2010.
Formerly known as the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, the ALTC is an initiative of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, dedicated to improving the student learning experience by supporting quality teaching and practice. With an annual budget of approximately $27 million the ALTC supports Table A, B and other Australian higher education institutions through a suite of award, fellowship and grant schemes.
In a statement in response to the announcement, Dr Brown suggested that the appointment came at a time when the Australian higher education sector was moving into one of the most important phases in recent times. "The creation of a seamless Australian tertiary education sector, coupled with a focus on learning & teaching academic standards, qualification outcomes and centralised regulation all make for one very exciting transformation. I look forward to seeing all of these new initiatives coming to fruition during my term of appointment".
