Purpose:
To assist RTOs to develop and implement strategies for effective and relevant engagement with industry in assessment-related activity.
Who should attend:
This workshop is designed for Compliance Managers, Resource Developers, Trainers and Assessors and staff in RTOs responsible for managing or maintaining relationships with industry and workplace representatives.
Description:
This workshop will examine the role of industry in assessment, including:
- Understanding AQTF/VET Quality Framework requirements in relation to assessment and industry
- Identifying “Industry”
- Effective industry engagement in planning, preparation, conduct and review of assessment
- Determining and measuring appropriate benchmarks of performance
- Record keeping and evidence of outcomes

Facilitator: Simon Hitchick
About the facilitator: Simon Hitchick provides specialist consultation services drawing on his extensive VET sector experience. He was the General Manager of TVET Australia’s National Audit and Registration Agency (NARA) managing the audit and registration of multi-jurisdictional RTOs including some of Australia’s largest private providers. During his four years with TVET Australia, Simon played a key role in the development of NARA’s regulatory approach and led the transition and wind down of the NARA operations in conjunction with the establishment of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
Proposed outcomes:
At the end of this workshop you will:
- have an overall understanding of RTO obligations relating to assessment and industry engagement
- be able to define and measure benchmarks of performance for identifying and engaging with industry
- be able to define and measure benchmarks of performance for assessment activity
- implement systematic approaches to support evidence of outcomes achieved
