Involving Industry in Assessment

Members are invited to learn how to involve industry in assessment - a workshop being led by Simon Hitchick.

This is the first workshop to be run as part of ACPETs new national professional development framework. This year ACPET has taken a leadership role in the provision of professional development (PD) to the tertiary sector with the introduction of a national framework for VET and higher education providers, both domestic and international. Our professional development activities will assist RTOs in improving all aspects of their business operations (aligned to the SNR/AQTF Standards) and developing their business in new markets.

The purpose of the workshop is to assist RTOs develop and implement strategies for effective and relevant engagement with industry in assessment related activity. Participants will discuss concepts relating to how an RTO may adopt strategies to ensure they are able to engage with industry. The goal is to provide RTOs with some tools and processes that will enable them to develop sound relationships and fulfill their compliance requirements.

This workshop is designed for Compliance Managers, Resource Developers, Trainers and Assessors and those within an RTO with responsibility for managing or maintaining relationships with industry and workplace representatives.

This national workshop will examine the role of industry in assessment, including:

  • understanding AQTF/VET Quality Framework requirements in relation to assessment and industry
  • identifying “Industry”
  • effective industry engagement in planning, preparation, conduct and review of assessment
  • determining and measuring appropriate benchmarks of performance
  • record keeping and evidence of outcomes

At the end of this workshop you will:

  • have an overall understanding of RTO obligations relating to assessment and industry engagement
  • be able to define and measure benchmarks of performance for identifying and engaging with industry
  • be able to define and measure benchmarks of performance for assessment activity
  • implement systematic approaches to support evidence of outcomes achieved

About the facilitator: Simon Hitchick provides specialist consultation services drawing on his extensive VET sector experience. Simon was the General Manager of TVET Australia’s National Audit and Registration Agency (NARA) managing the audit and registration of multi-jurisdictional RTOs including some of Australia’s largest private providers. During his four years with TVET Australia, Simon played a key role in the development of NARA’s regulatory approach and led the transition and wind down of the NARA operations in conjunction with the establishment of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
