On 7 September 2006, ACPET signed a co-operative agreement with the New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers. The signing took place at the NZAPEP National Conference in Wellington at which ACPET was represented by the National Chair, Julie Moss and the National Executive Officer, Tim Smith.

The agreement is the second such agreement ACPET has with sister overseas bodies, the first being the Agreement signed with the South African Association of Private Providers of Education, Training and Development.
The ACPET-NZAPEP agreement provides that:
The New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers (New Zealand Party) and the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (Australian Party) pledge to enhance the liaison and cooperation between our respective bodies, according to the laws and conventions of both nations, for the development of relations in education and training.
Both parties agree to:
Strengthen long-term friendly and cooperative relationship and to develop a healthy, stable partnership.
Exchange information and share perspectives to gain a greater understanding of education and training in both countries.
Actively participate in each party’s respective annual conferences, providing a keynote speaker as requested and a mutual and equal number of complementary conference registrations.
Encourage the development of strategic partnerships between member organisations for the two-way exchange of education and training.
Actively acknowledge the other Party in the participation of this cooperative agreement subject to prior agreement by both Parties in each circumstance.
The cooperation in the above-mentioned and related initiatives will assist organisations belonging to both Parties to identify business opportunities and strengthen bilateral trade
This is an exciting development that manifests the ACPET National Board policy decision to develop and build international links as a means of fostering business opportunities for our members in overseas markets.
The NZAPEP 2006 Conference had as its theme ‘Best Practice – Sharing Successes’ and the co-operative agreement is an illustration of this conference theme in action.
Julie Moss addressed conference delegates on current developments in Australia, particularly the COAG reform agenda and conveyed ACPET members’ good will and best wishes to our NZ colleagues.
